Community Based Mentoring

What is the Community Based Mentoring Program?

  • Our Community Based Mentoring is a free one to one mentoring program available for children 5 years old and older living in or going to school in Columbia County. The program is designed to support the children of Columbia County in becoming their best selves by building self esteem, growing social, emotional, academic, and developmental skills, and assisting the child with the many challenges of growing up today.

  • Mentee applicants ages 5-14 are currently being accepted. Youth can continue in the program until high school graduation or age 18.

  • Mentee families commit to at least one year of program involvement that includes mentor visits at least 2-4 times per month.

  • Volunteer mentors are individuals and couples and residents of Columbia County. Mentors must be at least 18 years old, have access to reliable transportation, and have a clean criminal record. Additional requirements are detailed through the application process.

  • Volunteer mentors commit to a minimum of one year of service, meeting with their mentee at least 2-4 times a month.

  • Mentors and mentees also come together throughout the year for group activities such as picnics, community events, and other fun.

  • In order to provide the best service possible to our kids, volunteer mentors are extensively screened and receive ongoing training and support.
